Does the backlog really matter in your abroad institution’s enrolment?

Studying abroad is becoming a trend in South Asian countries. Many candidates are very inclined towards pursuing their further studies in the top five English-speaking countries, such as the  USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland. These countries are also very welcoming when it comes to accepting foreign students. This is the reason every year the number of international students is increasing. Though there are many eligibility criteria for enrolment in foreign institutions, one that impacts the student in a large manner is backlog. The easy definition of a backlog is a course or program that a college/university student fails on their fast attempt, and to get passed in this program, he will have to appear again either in the next semester or before completion of the program.

A backlog’s effect on your study abroad enrolment is mostly determined by several factors, such as the country you’re applying to, the rules of the university, and the particular program requirements. Let’s get deeper and understand where different countries stand on it.

Canada

Canadian education is divided into two domains, colleges and universities. Some colleges in Canada are very strict when it comes to backlogs, whereas universities are pretty lenient until and unless you are cleared of all of your backlogs or supplementary before completion of the program, it is totally fine with them.  Some of the names of the lenient universities are Trent University, University of Manitoba, Brock University, Conestoga College, etc.

United Kingdom

The UK also belongs to one of those countries where the main weightage is on academic history, such as academic percentiles and work experience, not only on backlog. Yes, there are exceptions. If you are targeting a highly competitive program, then for sure it would be a bit tough for you since the queue would be long and universities would also give preference to the students who would have a clear record. University of Sunderland, University of South Wales, London, Glasgow Caledonia University, The University of Sunderland—these universities are pretty lenient when it comes to backlog admission.

United States

The USA is known for its technical programs or STEM programs, and it is pretty evident that most of the students who come from engineering backgrounds have the most backlogs in their graduation, so the US is pretty flexible when it comes to taking students with backlogs, so no need to worry if you are applying to USA universities. Avila University, Webster University, City University of Seattle, Bay Atlantic University, etc. are pretty lenient when it comes to backlog consideration.

Australia

Australia always follows the policy of less lenient and hard documentation. Australia is pretty stringent and strict when it comes to the backlog; it considers its stigma on the profile, so if you are aiming for any Australian university, be aware and check the eligibility criteria of the university or send the academic documents to the international admission team for evaluation.

Ireland

Ireland is another country that shares a border with the United Kingdom and shares the same interest when it comes to backlog criteria for university admission. However, some colleges in Ireland are strict about backlogs.

How to overshadow backlog curse

Though you can not change your academic stigma of backlog, there are some ways by which you can overshadow the backlog curse. Let’s understand the ways by which you can compensate for the backlog curse

1. Complete additional coursework

If you belong to that category of students who have lots of backlog in the graduation, then please make some extra effort, such as doing at least one additional coursework, which can make your profile outstanding and put more weight on your extra additional coursework.

2. Provide justification by the state of purpose

A statement of purpose is an amazing document to justify any mistake in your previous academic or work history; it allows you to explain why something bad happened and how you compensated for it. Properly justify the reasoning behind your number of backlogs and how you worked on those subjects and at last cleared the exams.

3. Letter of recommendation

Arrange solid letters of recommendation that emphasise your skills, work ethic, and academic potential so that you can justify that you are a solid student for the university.

Can backlog effect my visa approval rate?

Backlog has nothing to do with the visa approval or rejection. backlog is considered only for university or college admission. Immigration authority check offer letter veracity and institution reputation only. backlog never increase or decrease your visa approval or refusal.

For eligibility criteria, always refer to the official website of the institutions and apply only.
