First, Maple Country introduced two rural immigration programs: the Rural Community Immigration Pilot and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot. The programs were launched as pilot programs to satisfy the immigration plan’s 2025-2027 target. Canada is struggling with ageing and a lack of skilled workforce issues and is continuously looking to fulfil these needs with immigrants. Now, Canada has come up with another piece of positive news, making it possible for international students to attain any degree from a public college and apply for a post-study work permit. There is no doubt that Canada has always been a hot destination amongst international students, widely known for its quality education, recognised degree, high standard of living, lucrative post-study work permit, and immigration pathway. This update would give a spark to Canada’s economy, as recently international students have been a little bit reluctant, especially the Indian diaspora, which contributes a large portion of the international student community and assists the local economy.
As per the new changes, international students opting for Canada for their further studies and enrolling in a degree program in college would be eligible for post-study work. The students will no longer have to meet field of study requirements to attain the post-study work permit. Any stream student with a college degree would be eligible for a postgraduate work permit. The head body of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, or IRCC, reiterates that students graduating from any stream and all Canadians with bachelor’s and master’s degrees are qualified for the postgraduate work permit if they fulfil the language criteria, regardless of whether they attend colleges or universities.
